FIELD: physics, nuclear physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to power engineering and may be used in devices for water heating, for instance, in nuclear power plants. Method for operation of fuel assembly (FA) consists in supply of coolant to inlet of fuel assembly, distribution of coolant in space between fuel elements and internal cavities of fuel elements (FE), passage of coolant along convex and concave heat-release surfaces of FE, heat release in fuel elements, redistribution of released heat in fuel element thickness and removal of released heat due to heat removal from convex and concave heat release surfaces. Redistribution and removal of heat is carried out due to swirling of coolant, which is supplied to inlet of internal surfaces of fuel elements and (or) flushes concave heat release surfaces of FE.
EFFECT: increased specific capacity of FA.
