FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to the inorganic chemistry and can be used in the hydrogenation of metals, particularly magnesium. The hydrogenated materials can be used in hydrogen-storage system of the mobile transport means, in fuel cells, in heat pumps. According to invention magnesium undergoes the mechanical activation in hydrogen atmosphere at the temperature 100-140°C and atmospheric pressure during 1-2 hrs in the presence of the catalyst - nanocrystalline nickel or iron powder having particles dimensions 3-10 nm and coated with carbon. The thickness of carbon coating is 0.5-2 nm, catalyst amount reaches 5-10% of the overall magnesium and catalyst amount.
EFFECT: invention allows to simplify the process and to decrease the energy consumption.
