FIELD: textile; paper.
SUBSTANCE: method of defining average flaxen stock stem length involves optic properties monitoring and calculation of stem length in flow by plotting a curve of optic properties distribution across layer width and finding cusp coordinates at ascending and descending curve sections. Monitoring covers stem layer moving over transparent surface lit from below, with photosensitive sensors placed above the layer to define light-flux value penetrating through the stem layer.
EFFECT: possible performance of control in conditions of moving layer allowing for automated control without impairing equipment performance; simple method requiring no much investment.
