FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering and vacuum metallurgy of high-purity refractory metals and allows increasing electron thermal emission and efficiency of axial electron gun in high-power smelting. Proposed axial electron gun comprises cathode assembly, thermal cathode, heating spiral cathode, anode, magnetic lenses, scanning system, power source and vacuum system. Aforesaid thermal cathode is fixed in cathode assembly with he help of at least three spiral torsions arranged in the plane normal to gun axis at the angle of 120° to each other. Aforesaid torsions maintain axial and normal position of thermal cathode in wide range of supplied power. Thermal cathode is made from tungsten or tantalum monocrystals with the plane normal to crystal growth axis with minimum electron yield.
EFFECT: stable electron beam, higher gun efficiency.
