FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to the field of optical instrument making. Method for determination of crystal optical sign is realised in optical system comprising the following components that are serially installed perpendicular to system axis: source of monochromatic radiation, polariser, diffuser, flat-parallel crystalline plate with positive optical sign and optical axis that is perpendicular to its inlet facet, investigated crystalline plate with optical axis, which is perpendicular to its inlet facet, analyser and screen. Method consists in preliminary installation of optical axis of investigated plate at the angle α=10°÷40° to axis of optical system with further transmission of monochromatic radiation through the system and preparation of conoscopic picture, which is used to determine optical sign of investigated crystalline plate. Conclusion is made about sign of investigated plate by appearance of additional conoscopic images on screen: if two conoscopic images appear, conclusion is made on negative optical sign of investigated crystalline plate, if three conoscopic images appear, conclusion is made on positive optical sign of investigated crystalline plate.
EFFECT: expansion of functional resources for determination of crystal optical sign, improved validity of crystal optical sign determination.
