FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: catalyst is described for removing sulphur dioxide from gas emissions, with reduction of sulphur dioxide to elementary sulphur using a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The catalyst contains transition metals and a carrier. The transition metal compound in the catalyst is Cu1-xMxCr2S4+δ sulphide or a mixture of separate sulphides CuS, Cr2S3 and MS1+δ in amount of 2-20 wt %, where: M - is a transition metal, chosen from a group: Fe, Co, Ni, values of x and δ vary from 0 to 0.5; the carrier is aluminium oxide, including aluminium oxide modified with cerium oxide additive, in the following ratio of components, wt %: Cr - 12, Cu 0.1-5.0; transition metal 0.01-2.50, cerium 1-15, aluminium oxide - the rest. A method is described for preparing this catalyst and its use in cleaning gas emissions.

EFFECT: high efficiency and sulphur selectivity.
