FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: device and method of counting items, namely eggs, are proposed; they provide for the differential definition and printing of the functions implemented and possible faults in the course of operation and facilitate the economical manufacturing process efficiency. The device as per the invention comprises many first detectors and many second detectors each of which has the locally defined detection area and can detect the electromagnetic radiation, namely light of the visible and infrared spectrum in the detection area; the said detectors are set one behind the other at the first and second lines with the second line being parallel to the first one. A data processing unit is connected to the first and second detectors and is designed for processing signals of each detector to define the presence of an item in the detector direction.
EFFECT: improving the count accuracy due to considering the items moving in the reverse direction.
