FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear-power engineering, particularly to coated fuel particles for a nuclear reactor. The said particles contain a fuel microsphere and a multilayer protective coating. This coating consists of layers of low density pyrocarbon, high-density isotropic pyrocarbon, zirconium carbide, silicon carbide and an outer layer of high-density pyrocarbon successively deposited onto the fuel microsphere. The coated fuel particle additionally contains a layer of pyrocarbon of density 1.40-1.60 g/cm3. This layer lies between carbide layers.
EFFECT: invention is aimed at reducing damage to the silicon carbide and zirconium carbide layers by reducing corrosive damage when exposed to carbon monoxide gas and solid fission products in conditions of radiation-induced swelling and thermocycling.
