FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: this method comprises preliminary measurement of coercive force for every cemented-carbide plate of cutting tool, the plates featuring identical shape and being made from hard metal of one grate. Bar graph of distribution of measured coercive forces is plotted are by dividing cemented-carbide plates into groups varying in their coercive force by not over 10 oersted. Linear relationship between coercive force and thermoelectromotive force is established for each aforesaid group to allow defining interdependence of constant factors describing relation between thermoelectromotive force and coercive force. Aforesaid factors are used to determine tolerable cutting speed for aforesaid group.
EFFECT: coincidence of designed and actual strength of tool.
