FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: here is disclosed method of bottom burning with installed thermo-insulating covering made out of flexible sheet material. The covering is secured in the upper part of the mounting unit of the gas collecting bell, while in the lower part the covering is laid on peripheral seams of the bottom. The bottom is heated with burners through openings in the thermo-insulating covering; required number of burners is arranged at specified distance relative to lengthwise sides of the anode case. The burners are fixed on metal brackets attached to the gas-collecting bell; the brackets are distanced from the zone of bottom burning. Electrolyte is poured onto the bottom of the electrolyser through openings in the thermo-insulating covering before disassembly of the covering.
EFFECT: reduced cost of capital overhaul of aluminium electrolysers.
