FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: method is suggested to detect lower limit of material smouldering and its burning on surface by speed of gas flow for zero gravity conditions. Lower limit of material burning is the main index that characterises fire hazard of materials in zero gravity conditions. Method consists in detection of flow speed at specified parametres of gas atmosphere in flat combustion chamber, at which conditions are achieved, being the limit for material burning in mode of smouldering or its burning on surface. At the same time at specified parametres of gas atmosphere, dependences are defined between lower limit of material sample smouldering or its burning on surface by speed of flow and height of flat combustion chamber, and then by point of bending of built dependence a lower limit of material smouldering and burning on surface is defined by speed of flow for specified parametres of gas atmosphere.
EFFECT: this technical solution is important for cosmonautics, since it does not require material expenses for definition of the main index of fire hazard for zero gravity conditions compared to performance of experiments at long-term orbital stations.
