FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: optical cable has a metal tube, inside of which there is optical fibre. The optical cable has at least one metal tube inside of which there is at least one optical fibre with given excess optical fibre length (EFL). The metal tube is plastically deformed and shorted by a given value (St), which is greater than EFL. The tube is plastically deformed after shortening to regulate its length so as to achieve the given EFL value. Optical cable made using said method has local value of excess optical fibre length (EFL), which varies by less than 0.2% along the longitudinal direction with respect to average EFL value of the cable.
EFFECT: obtaining constant EFL value on the entire length of the cable for protection of the optical fibre from increase of attenuation and mechanical failure, arising from tension in the cable during use or installation.
