FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to graphite electrode for furnace of thermal-electric reduction, particularly for carbothermal reduction of alumina to electrode column and method of its manufacturing. Graphite electrode is formed from coke of anodic property and graphitised at temperature of graphitisation less than 2700°C. It allows content of iron approximately 0.05% by mass, specific resistance higher than 5 microhm·m and thermoconductivity less than 150 watt/m·K. Graphite electrode is manufactured, blending at first calcined anodic coke with binding coal-tar asphalt, and from this mixture it is formed raw electrode at temperature, close to softening point of pitch binder. Then raw electrode is burnt for coking of pitch binder up to solid coke. After optional additional treatment received cindery electrode then is graphitised at temperature lower than 2700°C during time, enough for exciting of arrangement of carbon atoms in cindery electrode into crystalline structure of graphite.
EFFECT: there is provided ability of exclusion of melt pollution by iron and ability of usage in rich CO atmospheres of melting furnaces, more economical than in manufacturing.
