FIELD: chemical technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for making carbon electrodes. Method for making carbon electrodes involves steps for combination of calcined coke, liquid pitch binding material and carbon fibers as derivatives of mesophase pitch for formation of the parent electrode mixture. Then method involves extrusion of the parent electrode mixture to form a noncalcined electrode stock, roasting a noncalcined electrode stock to form carbonized electrode stock and graphitizing a carbonized electrode stock by keeping a carbonized electrode stock at temperature about 2500°C for 18 h, not above. Invention provides enhancing strength of electrodes, reducing coefficient of longitudinal heat expansion.
