FIELD: information technologies; transportation.
SUBSTANCE: invention may be used in points of traffic accounting for definition of traffic flow composition. It is most reasonable to use invention in the roads having multiple traffic lanes. According to suggested method, transport vehicle availability is detected by measurement of distance at least from one available point in space to surface. When measured distance becomes less than critical, availability of transport vehicle is considered as defined. Then distances are measured at least from one available point in space to points of transport vehicle surface at least at one available moment of time relative to moment of transport vehicle availability definition. When required, transport vehicle movement speed is identified. Using obtained information, geometric parameters of transport vehicle are identified, and decision on it type is made.
EFFECT: reduced cost and complexity of transport vehicle identification device with the same validity of identification.
