FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: method involves measurement of operating conditions of the controlled section of power system; at that, operating conditions are measured not less than at four subsequent time intervals. Then rate of changing each of operating conditions at each of subsequent time intervals is determined, rate of changing each operating condition at current interval of its measurement is compared to rate of changing this operating condition not less than at three previous measurement intervals, and when absolute rate value of its changing at current measurement interval is exceeded in relation to absolute rate value of its changing at each of the previous intervals not less than by 2 times, there determined is the fact whether short circuit is available in electric power system.

EFFECT: improving accuracy and reliability of determining short circuit.
