SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an electronic device for processing data. The device includes data processing apparatus (13, 14, 16, 18) and memory (17), for processing image data (12.1) based on blocks. Image data (12.1) are coded into module blocks (B, MB) and are arranged in a predefined manner, from which the processing area (PA) in accordance with setup parametres can be formed from data of one or more blocks (B, MB). For processing, data in the processing area (PA) are arranged in memory (17), also in a predefined manner like data in extreme areas (EA1, EA2, EA4) of the processing area (PA) so as to process peripheral regions of the processing area (PA). Part of the processing area (PA1, PA2) is located such that, it can be formed from one or more module blocks (MBP1-MBP3, BP1-BP5), which were pre-coded, and from an area which was possibly at least already partially processed. The invention also relates to a method and software program (31).

EFFECT: use of the invention reduces memory required for image processing.
