FIELD: physics, image processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention concerns lossless encoding of images and video. Effect of invention is achieved by lossless predictive encoding based on macrounits for compatibility with existing image and video codecs, and provides for selection and application of on of available multiple modes of differential pulse-code modulation (DPCM) to separate macrounits to create DPCM residues with distribution close to optimum for entropy Golomb-Rice coding by series length.
EFFECT: efficient method of entropy lossless encoding despite different content properties of photos and graphic images.
