FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: determination of the age of radioactive products based on data on radiation level measurements is carried out using the curve of radiation attenuation by a layer of substance (filter) versus energy of ionising radiation. Optimum determination of the age provides a correlation-extremum identification algorithm. The algorithm is based on analysis of the spectrum obtained from dose rate measurements on the radiation contaminated area for similarity to any of the reference spectra.

EFFECT: faster determination of the radiation environment.
