FIELD: physics; computer engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of identifying mail messages. Extracted data can be in form of features which can be used in conjunction with machine learning systems to create improved filters. Data associated with information on a source, as well as some other information built into the body of a message, which enables a message recipient to contact and/or reply the sender, can be extracted as features. Features or their sub-collection can be standardised and/or opened before using them as machine learning system features. (Opened) features can be used to fill several lists of features which assist in detecting and preventing spam. Examples of features include email address, IP address, URL, an attached image indicating URL and/or parts thereof.
EFFECT: identification and blocking disguised spam messages.
