FIELD: nuclear physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to coolant control in a nuclear reactor. An air stream is pumped through channels of bundles of identical and different rods. A gaseous chemical tracer is fed into channels of rod bundles. Samples are taken from the air stream using a selective probe in different points along the channels of the rod bundles. Concentration of the tracer in the sample is determined and relative values are determined. Relative lengths of characteristic sections of the rod bundles are determined from the ratios taking into account relative length of the channels of the bundles on which tracer from the initial channel of the bundle repeatedly falls into the initial channel, and the relative step of periodic variation of orientation of the cross section of the rods. Average relative concentration of the tracer in rows of channels of bundles for identical rods and in the initial channel and two neighbouring for different rods is calculated, after which the relative effective coefficient of inter-channel mass transfer within the characteristic section of the rod bundle is determined from approximate ratios taking into account relative concentration of the tracer and distance from the inlet section of the tracer into the channel of the bundle respectively to the inlet and outlet cross sections of the characteristic section of the bundle.
EFFECT: wider functional capabilities of the method of investigating flow processes in bundles.
