FIELD: transport.

SUBSTANCE: proposed elevator unit comprises at least one cabin provided with catcher, control unit, drive and brake, and safety device. The latter incorporates speed determination unit, actual distance determination unit and computing unit to determine critical and minimum distances depending upon cabin speed. Said safety device initiates emergent cabin stop when actual distance is smaller than critical one. Aforesaid catcher is initiated when actual distance is smaller than minimum distance. In case emergent cabin stop proceeds as required, cabin moves along emergent braking curve. In case catcher operates as required, cabin moves along the curve of cabin-braked-by-catcher. Computing unit determines critical distance by preset curve of emergent stop initiation, while it determines minimum distance by preset catcher actuation curve. Catcher actuation curve does not adjoin emergent braking curve. Catcher is initiated before cabin approaches the point corresponding to zero speed on emergent braking curve.

EFFECT: reliable warning about collision.
