FIELD: nuclear physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear power engineering, specifically to nuclear reactor micro-fuel cells. The nuclear reactor micro-fuel cell contains a fuel microsphere made from uranium dioxide or thorium oxide or a mixture of uranium and thorium oxides and a three-layered protective coating. The first layer from the fuel microsphere is made from low-density pyrocarbon. The second layer is made from high-density isotropic low-temperature pyrocarbon with density of 2.0-2.1 g/cm3, where density of this layer on its inner boundary is 2.1 g/cm3 and 2.0 g/cm3 on the outer boundary. The third layer is made from isotropic high-temperature pyrocarbon with density of 1.80-1.85 g/cm3.
EFFECT: longer service life of the micro-fuel cell (burn-up fraction) due to reduced damage to protective coatings.
