FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: bismuth metal is loaded into a tubular quartz reactor and heated until the metal is completely molten. The reactor is rotated and the molten mass is treated in a reducing atmosphere which is a mixture of hydrogen or ethanol with an inert gas in order to remove the oxide film from the surface of the metal. Bismuth is then oxidised with oxygen at 350°C and rate of supply of oxygen of 30 l/h.
EFFECT: invention enables obtaining fine high-purity powder of bismuth oxide with high output and having particle size less than 150 mcm.
