FIELD: physics, nuclear.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to power engineering and can be used for generating electrical energy from radiation energy of radioactive nuclides. The method of converting radioactive radiation energy to electrical energy involves placing photoelectric converters near a radioactive source. A working gas medium in form of an Ar-N2 mixture under 1-5 atm pressure is placed between the radioactive source and the photoelectric converters. The mixture mainly radiates in the 350-410 nm and 750-1050 nm wavelength ranges on C→B and B→A transitions of N2 molecules respectively.
EFFECT: invention increases efficiency of converting nuclear energy to optical radiation and reduces adverse effect of radiation on the semiconductor photocells.
