FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to RICH-Ring Imaging Cherenkov photodetectors which detect ring Cherenkov radiation and can be used in experiments in physics of high-energy elementary particles (ions, kaons and protons) in order to determine their charge and velocity in a wide range of their pulses and for their identification. The ring Cherenkov radiation photodetector which has a unit of photomultipliers and an information processing unit, also has at its input a unit of fibre-optic waveguides placed before the photomultiplier unit in the Cherenkov radiation detection plane in form of semi-rings each having ends coming from the target zone of an accelerator outside the range of strong magnetic fields and are joined through an optical contact with the photomultiplier unit signals from which are transmitted to the information processing unit. Through a spatial selection circuit, the information processing unit enables determination of the radius of the ring Cherenkov radiation and consequently enables identification of elementary particles and determination of their charge and speed.
EFFECT: detection of ring Cherenkov radiation in strong magnetic fields and high spatial resolution.
