FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention includes a thermal imaging device, an infrared radiation pyrometre, a mechanical scanning device and an image and data processing system. The thermal imaging device, infrared radiation pyrometre and the mechanical scanning device are connected to the image and data processing system, respectively. The infrared radiation pyrometre is mounted on the mechanical scanning device and can measure temperature of the surface of a billet/slab during scanning. The thermal imaging device can measure temperature of a defined area on the surface of a cast billet/slab during thermal imaging. The invention employs a combination of the thermal imaging device and the infrared radiation pyrometre of the scanning type.
EFFECT: invention overcomes the effect of iron scales on the surface of the cast billet/slab and enables to obtain stable measurements of the temperature of the surface of the cast billet/slab in real time.
