SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of environmental protection, namely to the sanitary protection of water bodies in order to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population, and relates to a method of detecting unauthorized discharge of waste water into a river watercourse using thermal imaging equipment. Disclosed is a method of detecting unauthorized discharge of waste water into a river watercourse using thermal imaging equipment, which includes remote measurement of water temperature fields on the surface of a water body with subsequent visualization of temperature data on thermograms, analysis of thermograms and further sampling of water in points of the near-bank zone with excess of the permissible temperature difference to assess the degree of bacterial contamination. Thermal imaging is carried out on board a small-size river vessel moving along the river at distance of 10-20 m from the bank strip.

EFFECT: present invention enables non-contact remote measurement of water temperature fields on the surface of a water body using thermal imaging equipment with visualization of temperature data on thermograms and subsequent analysis thereof.
