FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: method consists in using gas pressure in of the engine under operation in order to determine a crack at its initial propagation stage. For this purpose engine is stopped, cooling liquid circulation is stopped at the engine under operation by switching off water pump, air header and water jacket is removed in turn from the engine, the engine is started and rated rpm is set. At that, cooling liquid surface around certain sleeve is visually examined, and when air bubbles appear on cooling liquid surface, there estimated is availability of a crack on that sleeve.
EFFECT: simplifying and reducing the time required for leakage test, decreasing its labour input, possibility of determining the state of cylinder sleeve without its being removed from the engine.
