FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: oxygen-iodine chemical laser has a singlet oxygen generator, a system for preparing and supplying iodine vapour with buffer gas carrying the said vapour, a gas mixing unit, a laser cell with an optical resonator, a cryogenic trap and a vacuum pump connected in series by gas pipes. The buffer gas used in the laser is carbon dioxide. The oxygen-iodine chemical laser also has one more cryogenic trap for freezing carbon dioxide gas, iodine and chlorine and a cryogenic pump. The cryogenic traps are connected by a channel to the unit for preparing and supplying iodine vapour carried by the buffer gas for recycling the carbon dioxide gas.
EFFECT: reduced weight and size and cost of the oxygen-iodine chemical laser due to replacement of nitrogen buffer gas with considerably cheaper carbon dioxide gas, and due to simplification and low cost of the system for pumping gases in channel of the laser.
