FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of obtaining population inversion on iodine atoms includes optical pumping of a gas stream. Optical pumping is carried out in two steps, where at the first step a gas stream is irradiated with light with wavelength of 490±10 nm, resulting in partial 1-10% dissociation of iodine molecules, followed by irradiation of the gas stream with radiation with wavelength of 1315 nm until full dissociation of iodine molecules and then carrying out gas-dynamic cooling.
EFFECT: avoiding the need to use hazardous reagents and enabling continuous pumping of the working medium.
