FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to rolling technologies. Method of process control for sheet material rolling in rolling mill involves ultrasonic measurement of material thickness, where ultrasonic vibration (USV) is emitted by emitter close to rolling mill rollers perpendicularly to the plane of material exiting roller gap. USV is transmitted through rolled material and air gaps between emitter and first USV receiver, and first USV receiver receives USV transmitted. Air gap between emitter and first USV receiver is set within 20-25 λ range, where λ is USV emitter wavelength. Second USV receiver is placed within emission zone of USV emitter above the material surface, with acoustic axis of receiver tilted against acoustic axis of emitter. Output signal of second receiver undergoes functional transformation to obtain tension correlating to monitored material thickness with attenuation rate of reflected USV selected so as the amplitude of reflected USV is equal to amplitude USV transmitted through the strip. Control action for actuator adjusting gap size between rolling mill rollers is generated on the basis of receiver signal difference in order to maintain strip thickness within tolerance limits.
EFFECT: enhanced control precision.
