SUBSTANCE: invention is method of 2-amino-3-methyl-4-ketopentanoate or its salt manufacture, including following stages: reaction of L-isoleucine in aqueous solution in the presence of isoleucindehydrogenase and at least one 4-hydroxy-L-isoleucindehydrogenase, chosen from group consisting of protein which amino-acid sequence includes sequence SEQ ID NO:6; reaction in presence of protein with amino acid sequence, including change, deletion, insertion, addition or inversion of one or more amino-acid residues in amino-acid sequence SEQ ID NO:6 - this protein must possess 4-hydroxy-L-isoleucine dehydrogenasic activity; reaction in presence of protein with amino-acid sequence at least 70% homologic to amino-acid sequence SEQ ID NO:6 - this protein must possess 4-hydroxy-L-isoleucine dehydrogenasic activity; separation of synthesized 2-amino-3-methyl-4-ketopentanoate.

EFFECT: invention allows highly effective producing of 2-amino-3-methyl-4-ketopentanoate or its salt.
