METHOD FOR CREATING FUNCTIONALITY OF SHORT ANTEBRACHIAL STUMP Russian patent published in 2010 - IPC A61B17/56

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to orthopaedics and traumatology. The first stage involves lengthening of a short antebrachial stump. Therefore, within a proximal forearm, two K-wires are delivered through the radial and ulnar bones in crisscross manner. In a distal forearm, two wires are delivered through the ulnar and radial bones, and one wire - through both antebrachial bones. Two wires delivered in the distal forearm in crisscross manner fix the humeral bone. It is followed with osteotomy of the radial and ulnar bones along the medial and lateral antebrachial surfaces. A compression-distraction apparatus is applied for up to four months to ensure lengthening of the radial and ulnar bones within 3.5 to 4 cm. The second stage implies a circular plaster bandage up to the upper one-third of the shoulder with the elbow joint bent at an angle 10 degrees. At the third stage, two "П"-shaped cutaneous flaps with a common stump face incision are cut out on the anterior and posterior surfaces of the stump. Then the soft tissues are dissected to create redial and ulnar branches. Wound defects are closed with the cut out cutaneous flaps. The hair sutures are applied on skin.

EFFECT: method provides higher functionality of branches in the short antebrachial stump.
