FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a system for detecting the state of a railway transport undercarriage component, which includes a sensor (12) having a matrix of infrared sensing elements (29). Each of these elements is directed on a distinct region of the target zone (32) of the undercarriage component for generation of data of signal characteristics, obtained during scanning and corresponding to each distinct region. The sensor can be directed such that, at least one of the elements receives incoming infrared signals (33) from the undercarriage component of the railway transport passing near the sensor without obstruction. The system also includes memory (42) for storing data of main signal characteristics which correspond to known undercarriage components. The system also includes a processor (40) for processing data of signal characteristics obtained during scanning and for extracting information characterising non-faulty state of the identified component.

EFFECT: elimination of erroneous readings of the infrared radiation sensor.
