FIELD: metal processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mechanical tests, designed to determine properties of metal during plastic deformation in process operations of cold metal forming by pressure (CMFP). Essence: stage cold deformation of tested sample is performed, at which circle limiting load-bearing surface of sample is transformed into ellipse, measuring of length of ellipse axes after each loading, determination of main deformation and deformation intensity εi, measurement of Vickers hardness (HV) and determining the relationship between deformation intensity εi and hardness HV as a result of approximation of graphical relationship between above parameters in accordance with formula HV = Nεin, where n is coefficient, numerical values of which reflect susceptibility of tested metal to cold deformation, and coefficient N determines hardness HV, acquired by metal after deformation with intensity εi=1. Tests are performed on sample, made in form of cylinder, deformation is performed by compression, wherein length of axes of ellipse is measured after each next sample deformation.

EFFECT: technical result is expansion of technological capabilities of method by determining susceptibility to cold-hardening of metal produced in bars with diameter less than 15 mm, used in cold volume deformation.
