FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ophthalmology and is intended for predicting development of diabetic retinopathy in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Reaction of pupil dilation is performed with application of 1% mydriacil solution in case of normoglycemia and hyperglycemia with glycemia gradient not less than 7-8 mmole/l at the background of similar AP and IOP. Value of pupil amplitude difference is determined in mm. In case if difference is 0.5 mm and higher in case of type I DM and 0.34 mm and higher in case of type II DM 35 minutes after mydriacil inctillation development of diabetic retinopathy is predicted.

EFFECT: method allows to extend arsenal means for predicting development of diabetic retinopathy in patients with diabetes mellitus by application of simple non-invasive available to wide application method of examination for adequate observation of patients in order to treat complications in due time.
