FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: unit-B sends a request method to a wireless transmission/reception unit (WTRU). The WTRU sends a packet of uplink synchronisation pulses without conflict in response to the request message. Unit-B evaluates time-shift of the uplink based on the packet of synchronisation pulses and sends the WTRU an instruction for establishing the uplink time. The WTRU then establishes the uplink time based on the said instruction. Alternatively, Unit-B can send the WTRU an uplink synchronisation scheduling message. The WTRU can send a packet of synchronisation pulses based on the scheduling message. Alternatively, based on conflict, the WTRU can synchronise the uplink after receiving a synchronisation request from Unit-B. The WTRU can switch to standby state instead of transmitting to a new cell when the WTRU moves to a new service cell. The discontinuous reception (DRX) interval for the WTRU can be established based on activity of the WTRU.

EFFECT: reduced power and resource consumption.
