FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: measurement of volume of liquid in a closed reservoir involves changing the volume of gas over the surface o the liquid by a known value ΔV and determination of gas pressure before and after changing the said volume. Volume of gas is changed by feeding a volume of liquid ΔV into the closed reservoir which leads to reduction of the volume of gas and is determined using the formula: , where V0 and V is volume of liquid in the closed reservoir and total volume of the reservoir respectively, m3; ΔV is volume of liquid fed into the reservoir in order to reduce the volume of gas over the free surface of the liquid, m3; p0 and p1 is pressure of gas over the surface of the liquid before and after feeding the volume of liquid ΔV respectively, Pa (atm).
EFFECT: more accurate measurement of volume of liquid in a closed reservoir due to prevention of escape of gas over the free surface of the liquid.
