FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: test specimen of a solid body is suspended on a thread with a fastened top end and placed in a reservoir with liquid. Rotation of the solid body specimen is restricted by supports while maintaining possibility of rotation of the specimen relative the supports by an angle less than 360 degrees. The initial position of the supports relative the specimen is established with zero torsional deformation of the thread before rotating the reservoir. During rotation of the reservoir, the supports also rotate with the same angular speed as the top end of the chord. The zero torsional deformation feature of the rotating thread used is restoration of the initial position of supports relative the specimen during rotation. After achieving the position of the top end of the thread being sought for, the top end of the thread is repeatedly shifted along a horizontal straight line which connects the found sought-for position with the axis of rotation of the reservoir. The second position of the top end of the thread which turns the torsional deformation of the thread to zero is found on that straight line. The distance between the two found positions of the top end of the thread which turn the torsional deformation of the thread to zero are found. Half this distance is equal to the shift value which corresponds to the given angular drift.
EFFECT: increased demonstrativeness of the study aids.
