SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydraulic engineering. Compact storage pond includes dam on river and tributary to this river. Water level in tributary bottomland corresponds to water level in storage pond and exceeds natural level of water in this tributary. The dam to separate tributary from river is arranged in lower reaches of tributary. At the same time in order to let the tributary flow through, pipeline is arranged, lower end of which is arranged along with river flow below the dam, which forms storage pond.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase volume of water accumulation, without increase in area of storage pond, and to reduce water losses for evaporation in traditional shallow storage ponds.
