METHOD OF TREATING INITIAL, DEVELOPED AND ADVANCED KERATOCONUS Russian patent published in 2010 - IPC A61F9/07

Abstract RU 2400194 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and can be used for pathogenetically grounded treatment of keratoconus of various degree of manifestation - from initial to advanced, with asymmetrical corneal ectasia. A corneal tunnel to be formed is concentric to a limb and represents a semi-ring at a depth of 80% of a corneal thickness in an annular region of the cornea with external diametre 7 mm and internal diametre 5 mm. A polymethyl methacrylate corneal implant of thickness 150 mcm, arc length 160° is inserted into the tunnel. The implant is symmetrised with respect to a straight line passing through the corneal centre and a point corresponding to the ectasia centre, and a rounded piece of the implant is turned to the outside. The implant has a semicircular section.

EFFECT: method allows improving visual acuity both with maximum glass correction and without it, reducing spherical and cylindrical refraction components, provides a corneal thickening in the centre and reduced depth of the anterior chamber, reduced number and intensity of Vogt lines.
