FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: water-soluble zirconium compound is added to a titanium-containing solution in ratio Ti:Zr=1:0.1-0.25 to form a titanium-zirconium solution from which a mixture of titanium and zirconium hydroxides is obtained. While stirring, the obtained mixture of hydroxides is reacted with orthophosphoric acid in two steps with polymerisation of the hydrogel of a phosphorus-containing compound of titanium and zirconium. The hydrogel is separated from the mother solution, washed, dried and ground up.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain a zirconium-modified sorbent based on titanium phosphate, which has high exchange capacity, high cation substitution constant, mechanical strength of the sorbent is retained for a long period of use in neutral and weak acid media.
