FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fibre optics and pertains to design of a double crucible and a method of using the said crucible to draw optical waveguides from glass which is liable to crystallisation and contains a highly volatile macro-component such as chalcogenide glass and glass based on oxides of heavy metals. The double crucible has concentrically arranged containers with inlet and outlet holes, whereby the latter are in form of a flattened cone. The inner container is meant for the glass core, while the outer is meant for the glass cladding. The crucible also has a device which fixes the position of the containers relative each other and the outlet holes which form an axially symmetrical die hole made in form of two separate positioning tables (positioners) placed one over the other. The upper positioner on which the top part of the inner container is attached can move relative the lower positioner in three coordinates and the top part of the outer container is attached to the lower positioner. A method of drawing fibre-optic waveguides using the double crucible is disclosed.

EFFECT: method enables production of waveguides from tellurite and chalcogenide glass with concentricity of 95-99% and optical loss of 0,1-0,2 dB/m at wavelength of 2,0-2,3 mcm and can be used to draw single-mode and multimode infrared optical waveguides.
