FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: portable current source has a membrane-electrode unit made from a monolithic four-layer gradient-porous structure which is a plate made from porous insulating material whose pores are filled with ion-conducting 6 M KOH. One surface of the plate is covered with an anion-exchange or cation-exchange membrane and a layer of cathode catalyst containing manganese oxide in form of nanoparticles on a porous carrier, and the other surface is covered with a hydrophilic layer of anode catalyst which is a Ni-Ru-F alloy in form of nanoparticles on a porous carbon carrier. The layer of cathode catalyst borders with a gas-diffusion layer of porous teflon, on the outer surface of which a carboxymethyl cellulose film is deposited, and the layer of anode catalyst borders a chamber filled with liquid fuel which is a boron hydride of an alkali metal in an alkaline solution of a gel electrolyte which contains a secondary fuel selected from a polyatomic alcohol such as glycerine, methyl cellosolve as a thickener and a perfluorinated compound.
EFFECT: reduced ohmic loss and prevention of carbonisation of the electrolyte.
