FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of recovering carbon dioxide from gas streams containing carbon dioxide. The method of recovering carbon dioxide includes an absorption step where a stream of gas is brought into a gas-liquid contact with an absorbing liquid through which at least a portion of carbon dioxide present in the gas stream is absorbed in the absorbing liquid in order to produce a clean gas stream having low content of carbon dioxide and an absorbing liquid rich in carbon dioxide, a regeneration step for treating the absorbing liquid which is rich in carbon dioxide at pressure of over 0.3 MPa in order to free carbon dioxide and regenerate the absorbing liquid depleted of carbon dioxide, which is returned into the cycle for use at the absorption step. The absorbing liquid is an aqueous solution of an amine containing a tertiary aliphatic amino alcohol, different from N-methyldiethanolamine and 0.5-20 wt % carbon dioxide absorption promoter, wherein the tertiary aliphatic amino alcohol exhibits less than 5% decomposition, when the aqueous solution of the tertiary aliphatic amino alcohol with concentration of 4 mol/l is stored for 300 hours at vapour-liquid equilibrium condition at 162°C and full pressure of 0.63 MPa during coexistence of this aqueous solution and carbon dioxide.

EFFECT: long-term preservation of absorbing capacity of the absorbing liquid.
