FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fibre optics, specifically to a method of making optical fibre. The invention is aimed at increasing strength of large-diametre (0.25-1.4) mm optical fibres used in laser medicine and technology. The method making optical fibre involves drawing fibre from a workpiece inside a high-temperature furnace, applying a primary polymer coating onto the fibre and then, in a single process, a secondary polymer coating by drawing fibre through a die hole with a calibrated orifice and a conical end with a molten thermoplastic polymer inside.
EFFECT: invention increases product output due to application of a secondary coating from a molten thermoplastic polymer directly onto the stack while drawing fibre.
