FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of processing the surface of components made from composite materials of the type "diamond-silicon carbide-silicon" and can be particularly used in making an instrument and structural components in mechanical engineering. The processing method is characterised by that, the surface of the component made from composite material to undergo processing is superimposed with the surface of a steel plate having a similar shape and then thermally treated in a vacuum in several steps, changing the steel plate at each step. All thermal processing steps, except the last which is carried out at 1150-1190°C, are carried out at 1210-1250°C. The steel plate used is made from alloy-free steel with carbon content less than 1.0 wt %. Diamond grains and silicon carbide matrices actively dissolve into steel at temperature of 1210-1250°C. The most intense process takes place in 1-2 minutes, after which 30-100 mcm of the material is removed. The last thermal treatment step is need for reducing roughness of the composite material.
EFFECT: removal of a layer of defined thickness form the surface of diamond-silicon carbide composite material.
