FIELD: weapons and ammunition.
SUBSTANCE: it is proposed to use barrel or muzzle brake as waveguide which is operated below limit frequency of the appropriate electrical and/or magnetic mode (TE and TM) of waveguide. Waveguide and missile form the system in which the missile position influences the electromagnetic field on the receiving communication element. Characteristic temporary change of intensity of electromagnetic field in the place of location of the receiving communication element, which appears due to the change of the distance between the missile and receiving communication element, is measured and used for determination of initial missile velocity.
EFFECT: method provides non-contact measurement of missile velocity and functions independent of the barrel used without interference with its design.
