FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: laser alloying from gas phase of item out of titanium alloy with utilisation of reaction gas is performed so, that elements contained in reaction gas form solid interstitial solution in titanium alloy. Partial pressure of reaction gas is maintained lower, than minimal value above which there are formed phases of nitride, carbide or titanium boride. An item out of titanium alloy has wear resistant surface layer produced by the above described procedure. The thickness of the layer is tR within the ranges from 0.1 to 3.5. It consists of mixture of minute grains of α- and β-titanium. Also in titanium alloy there are present elements of reaction gas in form of solid interstitial solution without forming nitride, carbide, oxide of boride phases. Surface hardness of the layer Hs measure on ground surface corresponds to a value within the ranges from 360 to 500 HV0.5. Surface micro-hardness HR measured on a polished cross micro section at depth of 0.1 mm from surface equals to a value within ranges from 360 to 560 HV0.1.
EFFECT: increased wear resistance at cyclic loads and high fatigue resistance.
